About Branches

Branches levels of care provide a structured continuum of treatment for wherever an adult or adolescent may be on the path to stability and recovery. The most appropriate outpatient level of care may depend on the severity of mental health or SUD symptoms, most recent level of care and its outcomes for the patient, funding resources and personal preference. We can help you make the right choice for that next step.

Branches Programs and Services

Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP)

PHP is an intensive, highly structured day treatment program that promotes healthy skill development through evidence-based group therapies. These programs offer full-day treatment and support for the patient remaining in or returning to the community while facing the stress and pressures of daily life. PHP requires approximately six hours of attendance, five days each week, for two to three weeks for most patients. We also offer PHP in Spanish at our Branches Jamaica Plain location.

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)

IOP is a highly structured treatment program that is slightly less intensive than PHP and that also promotes healthy skill development through evidence-based group therapies. These programs offer part-time treatment and support for the patient while remaining in or returning to school or work. The co-occurring mental health and substance use IOP is also designated as Structured Outpatient Addiction Program (SOAP) by some resources. IOP requires three hours of attendance, three days each week, for two to three weeks.

Program for Latino Adults, in Spanish

¡Servicios y programas de salud mental ambulatoria ofrecidos completamente en español! We offer multiple levels of outpatient care that is culturally competent for the Latino community at our Branches Jamaica Plain location. Our specialty-trained, Spanish-Bilingual professionals offer services that may include medication management, psychiatric care, therapies and case management. Treatment may cover topics such as coping skills, stress management, personal safety and relapse prevention, and may include elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and/or Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

Why Branches Outpatient?

Best outcomes following an inpatient stay involve prompt follow-up care and continued treatment at lower levels of care. Outpatient care can address a worsening behavioral health condition to prevent hospitalization as well. Arbour Hospital’s Branches outpatient programs and services offer continuity between each level of care, especially for patients who do not have established care for these next steps prior to being an inpatient with Arbour Hospital.

Don’t Delay the Next Step

According to many mental health research and advocacy groups, people delay seeking treatment on average 11 years after beginning to experience symptoms of mental health distress. Starting sooner than later or continuing to the next level of care within a day of discharge from the previous level of care can dramatically reduce symptoms and lead to more sustainable and better outcomes.
